MLB Trade Rumors: Carlos Gonzalez to St Louis Cardinals?

St Louis has become one of the most consistent franchises in baseball, but losing Jason Heyward in the outfield was a blow, especially heading to NL Central rival Chicago. Reports have the front office looking to add another bat in the lineup and the latest reports have Colorado Rockies star Carlos Gonzalez as a possible trade target.

These two teams have had previous discussions involving the 30-year-old, but they failed to produce a deal. With the Rockies need for pitching and the Cards’ need for another bat, Bleacher Report writer Karl Buscheck believes these two sides will once again converge and make something happen in the coming weeks.

Thomas Harding has also reported that “CarGo” is on the trading block as the Rockies look to add some young prospects, especially on the mound and he’s the last big trade ticket they have on the roster.

St Louis isn’t the only team showing some interest as the LA Angels and Arizona Diamondbacks are also in the mix, but the Cardinals have the resources, both on the field and in the bank to make a big offer and keep pace with the Cubs, who have made several roster moves and appear to have a World Series title in their sights.

Gonzalez rebounded nicely last season, hitting 40 home runs and reminding fans he is one of the best power hitters in the game. After missing most of the 2014 MLB season with injuries, it never hurts to have a run producing player in the middle of an order and with an open spot now in the outfield, the front office should do whatever it takes to add the veteran and give this squad its best chance to repeat as division champs.
