article imageMLB Trade Rumors: Aroldis Chapman to Toronto Blue Jays?

By Larry Seely     Jun 29, 2015 in Sports
Toronto - The Toronto Blue Jays enter July with the best offense in baseball, but the team is struggling on the mound, especially at the back end of the bullpen and if they want to challenge for a spot in the MLB post season, making a deal now is their best option.
General manager Alex Anthopoulos has never been shy about pulling the trigger on deals, but the front office has not done much over the last few months on adding a solid closer, in fact, the team is now using former starter Brett Cecil as the stopper and despite some success, he's not the answer to the problem.
Bleacher Report's Luke Strickland has compiled a list of the top trade targets before the trade deadline in late July and Cincinnati Reds closer Aroldis Chapman is among the best available players. The hard-throwing lefty is among the games best stoppers and the type of player that could help a contending team win more games with his dominating stuff late in games.
Anthopoulos could be looking for a cheaper option, Chapman will command a big contract after his current deal runs out after the 2016 MLB season, but for a squad looking to win now, using some young prospects could help this franchise finally make the playoffs and with the bats this squad has in their lineup, it's not out of the question to see the Blue Jays make a deep run this post season.
Jordan Wevers of Fansided has also reported on why this club needs more help in the bullpen and not another starter. He goes on to tell his readers that the Jonathan Papelbon rumors could have some merit, but no matter what the front office finally decides, it can't waste more time in finding that closer that could come in during the heat of battle and close down the opposition.
The AL East is a tight race with the top four teams separated by just one game. The more this team blows late inning chances, it will be harder to make those games up in September. A trade now could catapult the Toronto Blue Jays into the top spot in the division and create a buzz with the fans heading into the second half of the season.
