article imageMLB Scores: Buehrle pitches Blue Jays over Rays 3-0

By Larry Seely     Apr 2, 2014 in Sports
Tampa - The Toronto Blue Jays entered the 2014 MLB season with reservations about their starting pitching, but if the last two games are any indication, the rest of the American League could be in trouble.
Mark Buehrle made his first start of the year on Wednesday against division rival Tampa Bay and the veteran was impressive. The 35-year-old pitched 8 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing just four hits and striking out eleven Rays batters as the Blue Jays took 2 of the 3 games on the road to open the season.
Jose Bautista supplied all the offense needed with two solo homers and third baseman Brett Lawrie provided the defense with a great leaping catch in the fifth inning that saved at least one run from scoring and ending any potential comeback from the Rays.
After allowing nine runs in the opener, Toronto pitchers limited Tampa Bay to just two runs over the last two baseball games, giving the team and its fans some confidence to begin the MLB season and making this a club to watch as the season rolls along.
