MLB Rumors: Rich Hill headed to Boston Red Sox?

One area that needs upgrading for this franchise to win their next World Series is pitching and several baseball experts expect this club to address that need this winter. One of the problems with this is a lack of big name free agents that could step on the mound and provide an immediate impact, but a former member of the team is available and it wouldn’t shock anyone if he returns to ‘Bean Town’.

36-year-old Rich Hill resurrected his career with Boston in 2015, but left for Oakland that off season and preceded to have an outstanding start to this past year. With 14 starts, a 9-3 record, and an excellent ERA of 2.25, the A’s then traded the veteran to Los Angeles before the trade deadline.

Hill missed several starts with an injury, but once he returned to action, his time with the Dodgers was memorable. Though just 3-2 in six starts, the right-handed pitcher compiled a 1.83 ERA and saved his best for last, allowing just one run over his last 8.2 innings pitched in the post season, leading many to believe he will get a big money contract this winter.

Bleacher Report writer Tyler Conway has suggested a return to Boston is in the cards and for a team that needs help, bring back a player that was already with the organization is a win-win situation for both the team and the player and could be just what this franchise needs to make 2017 a season to remember.

Over the next few weeks, rumors will run rampant on social media regarding free agents and possible trades, but with the relationship already in place and the Red Sox need for starting pitcher help, this is one scenario that makes sense and could be one of the early deals that get done when the MLB free agent market opens next month.
