MLB Rumors: LA Dodgers need David Price, regardless of money

Its now been 27 years since Los Angeles has won a championship and after winning the NL West for the last three years, the window of opportunity could be closing, despite the $300 million it spent on salaries this past season.

With Zack Grienke now a free agent and possibly not returning to the club, the front office will need to land another front line starter to their starting rotation if they want to contend in 2016.

The biggest name available is Price and with the veteran lefty expected to sign a deal of $200 million or more, that limits the number of teams that can pursue the former first round pick. This team already has Clayton Kershaw and some decent depth on the mound, but after three straight years of failure, the time has come to make a couple big deals and move forward with the goal of winning a ring.

The hard-throwing lefty went a combined 18-5 in 2015 with Detroit and Toronto. With an ERA of 2.45 and the ability to pitch late into every game he takes the mound, Price might be one of the few players in the MLB worth the money he will get paid.

Of course the team does have other options, including Jordan Zimmerman from Washington and Johnny Cueto from Kansas City. Both of these veterans have shown they can handle the big stage, but in the case of Cueto, focus and a season long consistency seems to escape the right-handed pitcher, making it more of a gamble, especially with the amount of money he will get this off season.

One thing is clear, this team is ready and with the deep pockets the LA Dodgers have, one big name free agent might be just the start as this franchise looks to finally break its string of just making the playoffs and start winning championships.
