article imageMLB Power Rankings: Cubs still hot, Blue Jays beginning to fly

By Larry Seely     Jun 18, 2016 in Sports
Chicago - With summer starting this week, baseball is heating up with several great races for fans to enjoy over the rest of the 2016 MLB season.
The Cubs are still playing some great ball and sit on top of the latest power rankings with a 45-20 record. The pitching staff is the best in the game with an incredible 2.62 ERA and with some good young hitters, it's no wonder the team has an 11-game lead in the NL Central over St Louis.
Don't look now but the Toronto is starting to play like they did in the second half of last year. The Blue Jays have made a move to in the AL East, winning seven of their last ten and now trail Baltimore by just two games. At 39-32, the Jays have finally started clicking on all cylinders and if the bullpen can keep things together, they could become a top-5 team before the end of the season.
While all eyes are on Chicago and for good reason, Texas has quietly become the hottest team in the MLB and tops in the American League. The Rangers are now 44-25, expanding their lead in the AL West to 7.5 games over Seattle and letting the rest of the league know they could be a real threat in 2016.
Washington has moved to third in the latest rankings, thanks to winning eight of their last 10 games. The Nationals are now 43-25 on the year and hold a six game lead in the NL East over the NY Mets.
Another team in the National League starting to pull away from the competition is San Francisco. Despite an injury to Hunter Pence, the Giants have also won eight of 10 and now lead the NL West by seven games over the LA Dodgers.
With so many quality teams playing well, it will only create more excitement with the fans and with a couple tight races in both Leagues, it should be great for the game, especially with attendance and TV ratings as baseball looks to take the sports spotlight over the next couple of months.
