MLB News and Rumors: Tyler Clippard to Toronto Blue Jays?

This move was expected by MLB experts — especially with Jose Bautista still not completely healthy — but despite this trade, rumors of more potential moves are still hitting social media hard as many believe help is needed in the bullpen.

Brett Cecil has returned after a long stint on the DL, but since his arrival, its become clear he is not pitching the same as last year. The bullpen has been mediocre over the last month and for this franchise to make a run like they did in 2015, help on the mound is needed.

Brendan Kennedy of thestar.com has suggested a few names that could come in and help the Jays over the last two months of the season, including Tyler Clippard of Arizona, who has struggled this year in the desert, but has made the All Star squad twice in his career and could use a change of scenery.

The 31-year-old has 54 career saves and 171 holds in his 10 years in the league. The former ninth-round pick of the NY Yankees has a career ERA of 2.96 and has held opposition batters to just a .194 average, numbers that would be a big plus in Toronto.

Lefty Marc Rzepczynski is another option as the 30-year-old is having a solid season with Oakland. Having played with Toronto to begin his MLB career is a plus, and the good news for the Blue Jays: both of these players could possibly be added without giving up much in terms of prospects from the Minor Leagues.

One thing is clear — depth is an issue with the club and help is needed. The front office doesn’t have much time left before the August 1 deadline, but expect something to be done as the team is right in the middle of the playoff chase and past history indicates management will make a move.
