article imageMLB News and Rumors: Carlos Beltran to Toronto Blue Jays?

By Larry Seely     Jul 18, 2016 in Sports
Toronto - The All Star break wasn't kind to the Toronto Blue Jays — not only was it a momentum killer, it also put plenty of focus on the front office and what it might accomplish before the MLB trade deadline on August 1.
The franchise was proactive last year and it paid off in a big way and after losing its series in Oakland over the weekend, baseball experts believe this squad needs some help if they want to replicate the success from last season.
The biggest question is where do they need the help. With arguably the best starting pitching in the American League, and a lineup with plenty of power and ability to score runs, what is actually needed?
Take a closer looker at the Jays situation, and it appears a veteran with playoff experience is their best bet. Starting pitcher Rich Hill of Oakland has been linked with Toronto, along with several other clubs with less than two weeks until the deadline. A blister knocked Hill out of his start over the weekend and that small injury could play a major role in what the Toronto front office ultimately decides to accomplish in the next few days.
The latest rumors on social media has the NY Yankees looking to move veteran outfielder Carlos Beltran, and ESPN has reported that the Blue Jays are having discussions on his value to the organization.
Despite his age, the 39-year-old is still very productive at the plate, but as a pending free agent who won't be back in New York, it's reported that the pinstripes want to get something, rather than risk losing after the season and get nothing in return.
Beltran is hitting .297 on the year and .281 in his MLB career. With good pop in his bat and the playoff experience Toronto would like to add in their lineup, it makes sense to acquire the veteran if the price is not over the top with prospects. It could be the boost this franchise needs to make the post season once again in 2016.
