The Minnesota Vikings might have the top running back in the NFL, but a lack of consistent play at quarterback and on defense have kept this team from making the playoffs in recent years.
With only about a month until the 2014 Draft, general manager Rick Spielman is looking to find face of the franchise, but also land some quality talent on the defensive side of the ball.
With the eighth overall pick next month, several mock drafts have Teddy Bridgewater or Johnny Manziel as the top choice. Both of these young quarterbacks come highly rated in the latest player rankings, but finding the one that fits best with head coach Mike Zimmer is very important as this franchise looks to become contenders in the NFC North.
On defense, finding a pass rusher from the outside is priority number one. Walterfootball just released their latest mock and it has Spielman taking Demarcus Lawrence in round two. The youngster from Boise State has tremendous quickness from the outside and could become a second round steal if fitted with the right team.
With two picks in the third round, look for more help at linebacker. Telvin Smith of Florida State is another outstanding prospect and fits the need for more speed at the position.
The Minnesota Vikings will also need some help on the interior of their offensive line and should use a mid round pick to fill that need, but defense has to become the top priority as it becomes tough to make the playoffs while giving up nearly 500 points.
