How badly the retired Formula One champ Michael Schumacher is hurt is not fully known, but the German legend was taken to hospital Sunday after falling while skiing in the French Alps. He is said to be in a serious condition, though not critical.
The 7-time Formula One World Champion, Schumacher, 44, was skiing at the Meribel resort in the French Alps when he fell and hit his head on a rock. He was with other skiers, including his 14-year-old son, and skiing "off-piste", meaning in the backcountry on ungroomed slopes.
Two medical officers attended Schumacher within minutes of his injury, and police also attended. He was airlifted to a hospital in Grenoble. No other skiers were involved in the fall, a spokeswoman for the F1 racing legend said.
"He was taken to hospital and is receiving professional medical attention," Sabine Kahn said in a statement. "We ask for understanding that we cannot give out continuous information about his health."
Note: Media reports the following day, including one on Digital Journal, note that the head-injury Michael Schumacher suffered now has him "fighting for his life."
