Pound-for-pound king and world's highest-paid athlete Floyd Mayweather has started hyping his scheduled Sept. 12 retirement fight by naming the fighters included in his supporting bouts.
In the main supporting bouts, he wants unbeaten Keith Thurman to face Errol Spence. Mayweather also wants to arrange a rematch for Adrien Broner against Shawn Porter.
Thurman is the current WBA welterweight titlist, coming off a unanimous decision win against Robert Guerrero last March. He is due to face Luis Collazo on July 11 while Spence, who is likewise unbeaten in 17 pro fights, is fresh off a TKO win against Phil Lo Greco last Saturday.
In a recent interview with Ben Thompson of FightHype, Mayweather said that Spence, who is fighting under his own Mayweather Promotions wants to face Thurman first and Shawn Porter later.
"Well, you know, we're looking forward to Keith Thurman fighting Errol Spence on my undercard in September. Me and Errol Spence already communicated. He wants to fight Keith Thurman first and then he wants to fight Shawn Porter next," Mayweather said.
"He said he's young and he's hungry and he wants to prove himself. With that performance Saturday night, I think he got them boys kind of nervous, from what I hear. Errol Spence said it himself; he feels that Keith Thurman is scared. Keith Thurman, he's a solid competitor. I mean, he had a tougher time with Guerrero than I did, but he's a solid competitor. And of course, on that same undercard, we have to do the Broner and Shawn Porter part 2, the rematch," he added.
While putting together a complete card for the Sept 12 event, Mayweather has been getting himself directly involved in building his own Mayweather Promotions brand.
Mayweather, who has been using Golden Boy Promotions to promote his fights, is getting personally involved in several major boxing events which are being promoted by his own company, Mayweather Promotions.
Last year, Mayweather got the license for Mayweather Promotions from the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) to stage boxing fights in the state of Nevada. Mayweather Promotions has already secured licenses in Washington and New York.
