Mayweather-Pacquiao showdown done for May 2 at MGM Grand

Mayweather made the official announcement on his Shots account page confirming his fight against Pacquiao on May2 and adding that the fight contract has been signed.

“What the world has been waiting for has arrived. Mayweather vs. Pacquiao on May 2, 2015, is a done deal. I promised the fans we would get this done, and we did. We will make history on May 2nd. Don’t miss it! This is the signed contract from both fighters,” Mayweather said in his announcement.

The official announcement will now allow trainers to formulate their training schedules and fight plans based on the strengths and weaknesses of the fighters.

Mayweather is being trained by his father Floyd, Sr. while Pacquiao’s training is being handled by his longtime trainer Freddie Roach.

The announcement will also trigger the start of selling entry tickets for the venue and as well as the pay-per-view (PPV) sales booking.

The announcement did not say how much is the cost of tickets and the PPV price. It was earlier reported that the ticket price for the venue will be in the range of $1,000 up to $5,000 for prime seats while the PPV price could go up to $100 or even more from the usual price of $59.99.

Likewise the announcement did not include the list of fighters in the undercard as well as the judges, referee, ring announcers and commentators.

The super fight is estimated to generate a gross income of $300 million and will be jointly telecast by giant networks HBO and CBS/Showtime.

It took the parties almost six years to make the fight happen largely because of disagreement on drug testing protocols, purse split, venue, size of gloves to use, rematch clause and broadcast arrangement, among others.

Other details of the fight are expected to be issued shortly.
