The MGM weighing event drew more than 10,000 people, mostly boxing fans who paid $10.00 each to have a last glance at their favored fighter before the face each other in the ring Saturday night.
Pacquiao, who came to the scale ahead of Mayweather weighed 145 pounds followed by Mayweather who weighed 146 pounds.
The fight which took more than five years to make was set at the welterweight limit of 147 pounds.
Friday’s weighing event is part of the list of requirements that boxers must comply by the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC), the state boxing regulator.
Prior to the weigh in, the two boxers had their grand arrival programs on two different venues. Mayweather had his program at he MGM Grand while Pacquiao chose not to join Mayweather and decided to have one on his own at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino.
After the entertainment portion of the program, Mayweather spoke to his fans in a subdued mood, saying he doesn’t have to bash anyone.
“I don’t have anything negative to say about Manny Pacquiao or Freddie Roach. People from different teams can say things, but when it comes down to it, it comes down to the two fighters,” he said. “I’m glad I was flashy and outspoken when I was younger. But I’m close to the big 4-0. I don’t have to bash anyone. I know what I can do,” Mayweather said.
In contrast, Pacquiao was more upbeat as he greeted thousands of his fans at the Mandalay Bay after telling them earlier to just relax as he will do the fighting.
Meanwhile, the weighing event generated more that $100,000 in ticket sales which will go to two charity organizations chosen by Mayweather and Pacquiao.
