Mayweather blames Pacquiao again for failing to entertain fans

Mayweather and Pacquiao fought to a unanimous decision win in favor of Mayweather in their “Fight of the Century” on May 2 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Their lackluster performance angered over 4.4 million viewers across the globe prompting some of them to file lawsuits against Pacquiao, Mayweather and their promoters.

“The fans have to be mad at Pacquiao,” Mayweather told Showtime’s Phil Gray. They can’t be mad at me. I’ve done my job. I never said I was a checkers player. I’m a chess player. I play chess. Every move is calculated. But the fans should’ve thought about that when I was running through everybody at one particular time,” he added.

Mayweather (48-0, 26KOs), has repeatedly said that his fight against Berto will be his last. The fight is also the last of his $200 million six-fight contract with CBS/Showtime.

For his part, Pacquiao has blamed Mayweather for running and hugging during the fight as he refused to engaged him in a tot-to-toe situation.

Pacquiao also claimed that he got himself injured before and during the fight which is the other reason why he couldn’t perform well.

Pacquiao is still recuperating from his surgery to repair a torn shoulder rotator cuff last May. He said he is recovering faster that expected and would be ready to face Mayweather in a rematch early or late next year.

The Mayweather-Berto clash will take place on Sept. 12 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. At stake is Mayweather’s WBA (Super), WBC and The Ring Welterweight titles.
