article imageMarquez advises Pacquiao not to pursue rematch with Mayweather

Mexican counter-puncher Juan Manuel Marquez is giving WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao an unsolicited advise by asking him to forget the proposed Mayweather rematch because the unbeaten American will beat him for the second time.
Marquez, who knocked out Pacquiao in their fourth fight back in 2012 is preparing for his return bout after over two years of inactivity due to his recurring knee injury.
Pacquiao has been actively pursuing a second fight against Mayweather and there are persistent reports that they are holding initial talks about a possible fight in May next year.
After watching the Pacquaio-Vargas fight, Marquez was quoted by Boxing Scene as saying the rematch would end up the same way as it did in their first fight.
"It would be more of the same. Mayweather boxing, and you saw Manny Pacquiao was more eager, had more power, but did nothing. Imagine if it happened right now where Floyd Mayweather could adjust, it would be a fight [that would send boxing] further back, a boring fight," Marquez told ESPN Deportes.
Matquez suggested that Pacquiao pursue other competitive fights that fans want to see like a possible clash with Keith Thurman, Danny Garcia or Terence Crawford.
"I think it would be more of the same and fans want to see the Manny Pacquiao from five years ago... aggressive, with that power, searching for good opponents - but we hardly see him anymore. There are fights that are more competitive, good fights. Fans want to see Pacquiao against Keith Thurman, Pacquiao against Danny Garcia, Pacquiao with Terence Crawford - but the promoters will have to do what benefits everybody."
Marquez' long-awaited ring return is fully dependent on the result of his ongoing training and physical conditioning under the watch of controversial strength and conditioning coach Angel "Memo" Heredia. Read more:
Marquez is still hoping to land a lucrative fight against Miguel Cotto of Puerto Rico but they have yet to agree on the weight issues that have been getting in the way of the proposed fight.
