article imageManny Pacquiao tweets Floyd Mayweather that time to fight is now

By Marcus Hondro     Dec 19, 2014 in Sports
Floyd Mayweather has made statements urging Manny Pacquiao to agree to fight him and now Manny Pacquiao is making statements urging Floyd Mayweather to fight him. Is boxing's richest fight finally going to happen?
"Don't be a boxing humbug," Pacquiao tweeted this week. "Let's give the fans the fight they want. They have waited long enough."
The 36-year-old Pacquiao, 57-5-2, boxing's only ever eight world division champion and the Boxing Writers Association of America, the World Boxing Council and the World Boxing Organization's 'Fighter of the Decade,' has come off a big win over Chris Algieri in Macau and is ready, he says, to rumble with Mayweather (47-0).
The two have been sparring about a fight since 2009 but the Pacman seems more committed than ever and is handing out some of his best verbal jabs in the great boxing tradition of running the other guy down in pre-fight.hype.
"He (Mayweather) has reached a dead end," Pacquiao told Sky Sports this week. "He has nowhere to run but to fight me. I will try my best to make this a thrilling and entertaining fight. But I doubt if he's gonna engage me in a slugfest. You all know his fighting style. Most of his previous fights, if not all, induced us to sleep."
Mayweather vs. Pacquiao: pre-fight hype
Mayweather,37, has done his own trashing of Pacquiao, though he seems to be focusing on Pacquiao's manager, Bob Arum, who Mayweather has a long-standing dispute with and whom he once said he would never make a fight deal with.
When it comes to trashing Pacquiao as a boxer Mayweather has brought up up the Filipino's KO loss to Juan Manuel Márquez IV in 2012, and split decision loss to Timothy Bradley a few months later. But if his own words can be taken at face value, he wants it, too.
"Amir Khan, his name holds no weight," Mayweather told reporters at the World Boxing Council convention in Las Vegas this week. "No one knows who Amir Khan is, except for people who are involved in boxing. My focus is Manny Pacquiao."
Whether the date will be announced as the May 2 date in Mayweather's adopted home-town of Las Vegas, or another date next year, another location, it does appear the fight will finally happen. And that Manny Pacquiao is already putting together a fight-plan.
"I know what I have to do," he told Sky Sports. "I will chase him wherever he goes just in case he decides to run around the ring. We will devise a good fight plan against him."
