Reid and Pacquiao have developed a friendship over the years through mutual friend Bob Arum, who owns Top Rank Promotions, Pacquiao’s promoter.
Pacquiao, who became very popular in Nevada after holding most of his major fights in Las Vegas, endorsed Reid in his past election campaigns in Nevada.
Reid, who is the incumbent senator from Nevada and the current U.S. Senate minority floor leader, met Pacquiao in his office with a heavy bandage on his eye stemming from an injury while exercising last month in his home. He suffered broken ribs and eye injury that could lead to loss of vision.
Despite his injury, the 75-year-old senator managed to have fun with Pacquiao, who is in Washington, DC to join the annual National Breakfast Prayer.
In his Twitter post, he said his injury did not come from a punch by Pacquiao in a sparring session.
“Explained my injury to @MannyPacquiao. He also told me he’s ready to fight @FloydMayweather. Let’s make it happen,” he said in a tweet.
Reid said he looks forward to seeing Pacquiao takes on potential foe Floyd Mayweather.
The unbeaten Mayweather has calendared May 2 as the date of his fight against Pacquiao at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Pacquiao is scheduled to return to the Philippines over the weekend with his wife Jinkee.
Talks on the terms of the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight are still in progress even as Mayweather has been spotted in Jamaica after his brief and highly talked-about meeting with Pacquiao during the half time of the NBA game between Miami Meat and Milwaukee Bucks in Florida last week.
