Pacquiao is one of the honorees in the “2015 Game Changer of the Year” awards by the Asia Society to be held at the United Nations in New York on Oct. 13.
“The Asia Game Changer Awards address the lack of recognition for Asians who are transforming ideas into action and improving lives,” said Asia Society President Josette Sheeran
“This year’s honorees could not be more different from one another. They include a group of scientists, a comedian, a dancer, a fighter pilot and a boxer. What they share in common is that they all fight for a better today and inspire the world to do things differently,” Sheeran added.
While in the US, Pacquiao will confer with his promoter Bob Arum about his comeback fight following his shoulder injury during his training for his fight against Floyd Mayweather last May 2 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Pacquiao is also expected to visit his orthopedic doctor in Los Angeles to find out the result of the MRI examinations on his shoulder injury.
Arum said he won’t work on Pacquiao’s next fight if he fails to get a medical clearance from Dr. Neal ElAttrache in his Los Angeles clinic.
At least four challengers have been shortlisted by Arum for Pacquiao’s next fight. They include Amir Khan, Terence Crawford, Kell Brook and Juan Manuel Marquez.
Among the four contenders, Khan is confident he will land a fight with Pacquiao early next year.
Pacquiao, who is an incumbent congressman representing the lone district of Sarangani, has recently disclosed that he will seek a senate seat in the next elections.
Deadline for the Certificate of Candidacy (COC) will be on Friday Oct. 16. 2015. Pacquiao is expected to file his COC when he returns to Manila before the deadline.
