While preparing for his first post-retirement fight against Jessie Vargas, Pacquiao has stated that his passion for boxing had become more evident when he felt lonely without his usual gym works in the company of friends.
Longtime trainer Freddie Roach has confirmed that Pacquiao really enjoys his job as professional boxer and now that he has been elected to the senate, Roach is amazed at how Pacquiao manages his time with his dual jobs.
“I have been training Manny for 15 years and even after all this time he still amazes me,” said seven-time Trainer of the Year and Hall of Famer World-Famous Freddie Roach.
“He’s pushing 38 and he still outworks every fighter I’ve ever worked with. He’s had a killer schedule during this training camp but it’s been really productive. You’d have to see it to believe it,” Roach added.
In this week’s media gathering, Pacquiao said he feels good about the last Bradley fight but added that it isn’t the reason why he is coming back.
“I felt very good in that Bradley fight. It is not the reason I continued to fight though. I came back because I felt lonely, not training with my friends and I felt empty and I realized that I could still train and work so that’s why I decided to fight again,” he said.
Asked if he is enjoying boxing as a relief after his working in the senate, Pacquiao said he’s enjoying both jobs and doing them at the same time.
“Absolutely, I am still enjoying boxing that is why I am continuing my career and I am also enjoying my time in the Senate while I am doing my job. I am enjoying both,” he said.
“They are both hard. At the of the day in the Senate I am exhausted mentally and when I get to the gym and have to work hard and after that I am exhausted physically so I have to rest,” Pacquiao added.
For over two months of training in the Philippines, Pacquiao has focused solely on boxing and his work in the senate.
Next Saturday, Pacquiao will prove to his fans and followers that he can do both jobs (senate and boxing) with precision as he completes his endurance test against Vargas in Las Vegas, Nevada.
