article imageLA Lakers Rumors: Latest free agent buzz with purple and gold

By Larry Seely     Jul 30, 2014 in Sports
Los Angeles - The 2014-15 NBA season should be much different then last year for the LA Lakers as the front office has made a number of moves to improve the purple and gold, but with money left to spend, could GM Mitch Kupchak have another move or two up his sleeve?
The biggest move for the franchise was hiring Byron Scott as head coach, The former Lakers star will bring a more all-around style of play to the team and with the seal of approval from star Kobe Bryant, a move that could benefit the franchise for years to come.
On the player front, adding Jeremy Lin in a trade and signing Carlos Boozer were both positive steps in the right direction, but more help is needed if this squad wants to compete with the likes of San Antonio, Oklahoma City, and Houston in the upcoming season.
Rumors have hit social media of the possible signing of former Miami Heat power forward Michael Beasley. Despite his past problems off the court, the 25-year-old could be the type of player this team could use to help replace Pau Gasol and Chris Kaman in the front court.
The former first round pick was used off the bench last season in Miami, but his starting experience and ability to score could make him a solid choice as a small forward in the starting rotation or at the very least, give the LA Lakers some much needed depth coming off the bench.
Another rumors that has gained some traction in recent days is a possible sign and trade with Detroit for center Greg Monroe, another young player with good experience and a high upside.
Monroe is a restricted free agent, but has received little attention this off-season, despite the Pistons willing to move the talented big man. With Los Angeles hurting for depth at center, a deal for a couple bench players or perhaps some future draft choices could solidify a possible deal and land the Lakers a player they could use to help build a strong foundation for when Bryant finally retires.
