Bieber in Mayweather entourage
TMZ reported that yesterday (Friday) they asked Bieber about the fight in Las Vegas as he was coming out of an L.A. nightclub. The entertainment site said Bieber told them that they could “count on him” being a part of the Mayweather entourage that will walk the 47-0 fighter out to the ring.
This is all hardly a surprise. The Biebs has visited Money Mayweather at his training facility a number of times in the past three years and walked out to the ring with Mayweather for his 2012 bout with Miguel Cotto and 2013 bout with Saul ‘El Canelo’ Alvarez..
The Canadian pop star was also at the press conference with Mayweather on March 11th when Mayweather and Pacquiao appeared together to hype the fight; when the presser was over Bieber and Mayweather posed for photographs together.
Bieber and Mayweather: admiration society
In the past, along with other media, TMZ has been hard on Bieber and his interest in developing a friendship with Mayweather. Indeed, TMZ has said that the singer has “weaseled his way into Floyd Mayweather’s inner circle” and that the Biebs “has been ingratiating himself with Mayweather.”
But Mayweather would hardly have anyone walking to the ring with him that wasn’t providing some positive vibes. The friendship serves Mayweather as well, for one possibly bringing young fans to his camp as a supporter, and to boxing.
Further, Mayweather, 38, is known for his enjoyment of the spotlight – he poses for photos with every celebrity who walks by, from Usher to Nicholas Cage to Lindsay Lohan – and Bieber, 21, shines yet more of that upon him.
So a mutual admiration society?
Bieber, incidentally, is about the same height and size of Mayweather, who is fighting Pacquiao at 147 pounds for three welterweight belts, one currently held by Pacquiao (the WBO belt) and two held by Mayweather (the WBC and WBA belts).
In addition, something called the welterweight division lineal crown is up for grabs, the title given to the fighter who has won an entire division’s crown. That champion is known as “the man who beat the man.” A special belt said to be worth $1 million s being made for the winner of the fight.
