Johnriel Casimero lucky to be part of Golovkin-Brook fight card

The Golovkin-Brook fight is highly promoted with UK’s Sky Box Office and HBO handling the fight coverage for the intentional audience.

As part of the supporting bout, Casimero will get international media exposure because of the massive promotions that Sky and HBO will undertake in the days and weeks leading up to the fight.

Casimero is set to face Charlie Edwards, a young-unbeaten challenger from Epsom, Surrey, United Kingdom who has eight fights to his credit as a pro. The 23-year-old Briton has a 38 percent knockout rating. He is an orthodox fighter and stands 5’6,” two inches higher than Casimero’s height of 5’4.”

Edwards is coming off a unanimous decision win against Jose Aguilar of Managua, Nicaragua last July 16 at the Max Schmeling Halle, Prenzlauer Berg, Berlin, Germany/

Casimero is defending his IBF Flyweight title which he won from Anmat Ruenroeng of Thailand via TKO in a rematch last May 26 at the Diamond Court in Beijing, China.

Ruenroeng was unbeaten in 17 pro fights before facing Casimero and was coming off a unanimous decision win against Myung Ho Lee last year to retain his IBF flyweight title.

Casimero (24-3-0, 13 KOs) has been inactive for almost a year since his controversial loss to Ruenroeng in June last year, while Ruenroeng defended his title last December.

Casimero is one of the four current world boxing champions from the Philippines which include Nonito Donaire, Donnie Nietes and Marlon Tapales.

It will be Casimero’s first title defense of his IBF Flyweght title.
