Casimero (21-2-0, 13 KOs), is coming off a TKO victory against Armando Santos of Mexico at the Salón Las Palmas, Pesquería, Nuevo León, Mexico last year.
The 25-year-old boxer from Ormoc, Leyte, Philippines is riding high on his seven-fight winning streak since his TKO loss to Moruti Mthalane in 2011 in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Casimero hogged the spotlight in 2012 when he scored a TKO victory over Luis Alberto Lazarte of Argentina after he was attacked by hostile crowd following his spectacular win against the the veteran 40-year old Argentinean.
Casimero’s handlers, led by Promoter Sammy Gello-ani, were hurt and badly shaken as hostile fans entered the ring and attacked members of Casimero’s team.
“It was an even fight at first but Casimero began to dominate Lazarte starting in the middle rounds. He knocked down Lazarte twice in round nine and knocked the Argentinian again in the tenth prompting the referee to stop the fight,” Gello-ani said after the fight in 2012.
On Saturday, Casimero will try to reclaim the IBF light flyweight title from Ruenroeng in a 12-round title fight. The unbeaten Thai is coming off a unanimous decision win against popular Chinese flyweight challenger Zou Shiming in Macau, China last March.
Ruenroeng (15-0-0, 5 KOs), who was serving a jail term for robbery while competing in the amateur, got his freedom when he won a national title in the flyweight division. Later, he represented Thailand at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing after winning a bronze medal in the 2007 World Amateur Boxing Championships in Chicago.
