Pabustan (26-2-6, 7 KOs), who hails from Malapatan, Sarangani, Philippines, is coming off a four-fight winning streak with one draw since losing to Monico Laurente in a technical decision last March 2014 at the Sofitel Hotel, Harbour Garden Tent, Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines.
Pabustan is coming to the fight on Friday as a huge underdog considering the disparity in the fighters’ records, which show him with 26 wins and six losses compared to Singyu’s 51 wins with only three defeats.
The 26-year-old Sarangani native who now resides in Cagayan de Oro City, Misamis Oriental, Philippines, has a dismal knockout record of six KOs of his 26 wins. But Pabustan has a fair chance of pulling off an upset as he is a fairly smart fighter and knows how to control a fight. He also has a three inches advantage in height at 5’7″ against Sor Sngyu’s 5’4.” Pabustan is a southpaw while Sor Singyu is an orthodox fighter.
Sor Singyu is the current WBO bantamweight champion. He first won the title against A.J. Banal of the Philippines in 2012 but failed to defend it when he lost to Namibia’s Paulus Ambunda in 2013. He regained the title when he fought and won over Ryo Akaho via KO last year.
The 27-year-old Thai fighter has a long history of competition in his pro career. After his loss to Tomoki Kameda in 2014 during his US debut, Kameda has won five straight fights with four coming via KO.
Sor Singyu is a tough opponent for Pabustan as the Thai fighter is a known KO artist having knocked out 35 of his 51 opponents via KO.
It will be Sor Sinyu’s first defense of the WBO bantamweight title which he regained from Akaho last year.
According to asianboxing, the title fight was originally scheduled to take place last month but rescheduled for February 12 and will likely be shown to the public for free.
