Jessie Vargas credits new team for his enhanced speed, power

Vargas has credited his new team led by trainer Dewey Cooper, strength and conditioning coach David Hayes, cutman Rafael Garcia, his father for enhancing his speed and power to surpass his last knockout win against Sadam Ali last March.

Against the veteran Filipino boxing star, Vargas is the underdog in the Nov. 5 showdown at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

But Vargas is oozing with confidence that he will emerge triumphant over Pacquiao because of the things that his team did as he prepares for the most challenging fight of his career.

“I would say overall what gives me that confidence is the team that I have. They are bringing out the best in me I said that when we became a two-division world champion. We won the welterweight title in March,” said Vargas during the Q&A for the Nov. 5 fight.

“Again, we are looking to surpass the level that we were in in March. I will outdo that performance on November 5th. You are going to see a faster, stronger, more hunter, more intelligent and with better ring IQ,” he continued.

“Just overall a better fighter and it’s all because of my team – my coach Dewey Cooper, my strength and conditioning coach David Hayes and Rafael Garcia my cut man. We have such great team chemistry and I have the best of the best and that’s why I feel so confident,” Vargas added.

Vargas will be up in the ring on fight night in top condition as he aims to derail Pacquiao’s quest for recognition as the first senator to win a world title by beating him and keeping his title which Vargas is defending for the first time.

“Never in any training camps have I taken down as many sparring partners as I have in this camp, and that says a lot. My trainer Dewey Cooper, [assistant trainer] David Hayes, they’ve been making sure that I’ve been sitting down on my punches because power is gonna be a definite change in this fight from my fights in the past,” said Vargas.

A win by Vargas over the highly favored Pacquiao will make him a two-time world titlist and boost his popularity as one of the world’s finest boxing champions.
