article imageGreen Bay Packers Rumors: Brandon Pettigrew a good option at TE?

By Larry Seely     Feb 2, 2014 in Sports
Green Bay - Despite an injury to star quarterback Aaron Rodgers, the Green Bay Packers rallied down the stretch of the 2013 NFL season and made the playoffs, but with a few players set to leave via free agency, finding replacements is a priority for the front office.
One area of concern is tight end as both Andrew Quarless and Jermichael Finley are set to become free agents. With just $11 million to spend this off-season, it's unlikely either will return and the chances of signing a player like Jimmy Graham is remote.
One rumors that has hit social media is Detroit Lions tight end Brandon Pettigrew as an option. After a decline in numbers and some nagging injuries over the past two years, the former first round draft pick could be a cheap, but effective option for the team.
There's no doubt Green Bay must upgrade the defense, but that will likely happen through the NFL Draft. Rodgers needs that tight end that can stretch a defense and provide a big target in the red zone and for a team that has little money to spend, Pettigrew could be the best option heading into the 2014 NFL season.
