Golovkin knocks out Lemieux in round 8, remains unbeaten

Golovkin’s impressive knockout win could lead to a possible showdown against Puerto Rico’s Miguel Cotto early next year, provided Cotto wins over Canelo Alvarez when they clash on Nov. 21 at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nev.

In the opening round, Golovkin started off with a flurry of jabs which he maintained throughout the fight. The jabs were effective, as he used them to set up his power shots.

Golovkin, who is known for his deadly body shots, took a while to find his range as Lemieux appears to have put up a good defense to cover his body.

As expected, Golovkin started to unleash his signature body shots in the fifth round when he dropped Lemieux following a liver shot. Lemieux was visibly hurt but he survived the round.

After hurting Lemieux in the fifth round with a power shot in the liver, it only took Golovkin two more rounds to finish Lemieux.

In the eighth round Golovkin forced Lemieux to the ropes, battered him with a series of jabs, a big right to the head and a final hard shot to the liver that gave the referee a reason to stop the fight at 1:32..

Golovkin has won many of his fights using body shots. This happens when he sees his opponent in pain following a power punch to the liver. Soon after, he follows up with a series of power shots that usually land on target because the opponent cannot put up a good defense as he struggles with the pain caused by the liver shot.

With the TKO win, Golovkin improves his record to 34-0-0, 31 KOs while Lemieux dropped to 34-3-0, 31 KOs.
