Gilas got the initial shock from the Thailand National Team when it led by one point over the Philippine team in the first quarter of the game but Gilas pulled away in the later part of the second quarter and never looked back till the end of the last quarter for a 108-53 lopsided victory.
First to break the ice for Gilas was Alein Maliksi with his three-point shot. Maliksi played with Adray Blatche and June Mar Fajardo in their first quarter.
Gilas Coach Chot Reyes allowed Blatche and Fajardo to stay longer to assist the team in the shaded area. The two took turns in scoring for the team until Japeth Aguilar came in to replace Fajardo.
The score ballooned to 43-20 with about three minutes left in the second quarter. Gilas ended the first half with 52-26 in the scorecard. Soon after Gilas showed its superiority over the Thai team as they registered a 55-point lead at the end of the final quarter.
It was Gilas fourth victory in the ongoing SEABA Games. The Philippine Team is tied with Indonesia at 4-0. The two leading teams will collide on Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
The winner for the week-long tournament will represent SEABA in the 2017 FIBA Asia Cup which will take place in Lebanon from August 10 to August 20, 2017.
South East Asian countries participating the the 2017 SEABA Games include Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
The Philippine team is composed to selected top players in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) which include Calvin Abueva, Japeth Aguilar, Raymond Almazan, Andray Blatche, June Mar Fajardo, Allein Maliksi, Jovani Jalalon, Roger Pogoy, Terence Romeo, Troy Rosario, Jason Castro and Matthew Wright.
