Golovkin, who is unbeaten in 32 pro fights, dominated the fight up to the 11th round when referee stopped the fight 50 seconds into penultimate round. Murray was dropped three times before the referee jumped in to save the brave Englishman from further punishment.
The 32-year-old Kazakh holds an incredible record of 29 knockout wins from his unbeaten record of 32 professional fights.
Golovkin (also know as GGG or triple G) is coming off a second round knockout victory over Marco Antonio Rubio of Mexico last October at the StubHub Center in Carson California.
It was Golovkin’s longest fight since he turned pro in 2006. Many of his fights did not go past eight rounds except in his fight against Kassim Ouma of Uganda, where he won a 10th round KO victory in 2011.
After the fight, GGG called out Miguel Cotto, the Puerto Rican middleweight ace who is aiming for another lucrative fight against Mayweather. But with Mayweather-Pacquiao super fight happening, Cotto could be a possible opponent — although the Puerto Rican star is expected to scout around for a pay-per-view bout that will pay better.
“I hope (my next fight) is Miguel Cotto,” Golovkin told HBO’s Max Kellerman during their post-fight interview. “My goal is all the belts. I need unification fight.”
Two of the fighters that expressed interest in facing Golovkin are Andre Ward and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., who both used social media to get their message across.
With his TKO loss to GGG, Murray’s career record dropped to 29-2-1.
