Pacquiao has started light training on May 8 while attending to his senate duties to fulfill his mandate as a neophyte senator of the Philippines.
For his light training, Pacquiao performs his duties as legislator during daytime while doing outdoor exercises and light gym works in late afternoons and early evenings.
The 38-year-old fighting senator is expected to start serious sparring sessions when he joins Roach starting Monday May 22 at the Elorde Gym.
Pacquiao’s assistant trainer Buboy Fernandez said Pacquiao is now ready for tougher sessions with Roach taking over the training camp.
“Okay na, ready na si Manny to go into the tougher stage of preparations,” Buboy said during the weekend sessions at the Elorde Gym on Saturday.
Roach’s arrival in the training camp will signal Pacquiao’s intense activities in the gym that will include sparring sessions as the neophyte legislator prepares to wind down his work in the senate for the current session.
“With the rust brought about by six months of ring inactivity gone and a little of his speed and punching power recovered, we can now move towards the more rigid phase of the program,” Buboy disclosed.
