article imageFloyd Mayweather beats Andre Berto, ties Rocky Marciano at 49-0

Unbeaten American boxer Floyd Mayweather has tied the career record of legendary boxer Rocky Marciano at 49-0 after beating challenger Andre Berto by unanimous decision Saturday night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Mayweather dominated the fight from the opening round up to round 6. The unbeaten fighter appears to have slowed down in round 7 allowing Berto to land some power shots.
Except for the seventh round, Telegraph's Gareth Davis gave all the rounds to Mayweather. It was landslide victory for Mayweather, said Davies.
"It was a landslide to Mayweather. He is not the most exciting fighter - has not been for years - but his art and craft of 'hit and not be hit' is majestic. Mayweather is a boxing purist's dream in many ways. And when you are live here, he does magnetise you. It might be unfair on Berto, but that was a cakewalk for Mayweather. At his best... but not TBE," Davis said in his commentary.
There was no knockdown during the 12-round encounter and as usual the fight was typical of Mayweather's hit and run fighting style.
After the fight, Mayweather said he is leaving the sport with all his faculties and thanked the fans for calling him The Best Ever (TBE).
"It's my time to hang 'em up. I've been in the sport for 19 years. I've made great investments and I'm financially stable. Records are made to be broken. Maybe we can find another Floyd Mayweather. Now I want to a spend time with my family. I am leaving the sport with all my faculties. I'm still smart, I'm still sharp. I've accomplished everything. There's nothing more to accomplish in the sport. For all the fans who call me TBE, I thank you."
Official scorecard: Mayweather wins a unanimous decision, with the judges scoring it: 117-111, 118-110 and 120-108.
Mayweather stays unbeaten at 49-0.
