Magdaleno (23-0-0, 17 KOs) has been calling out Nonito Donaire, saying he is the mandatory challenger to Donaire’s WBO 122-pound title.
The 24-year-old Mexican-American from Las Vegas, Nevada is ranked No.1 by WBO, No. 4 by WBA, No. 5 by IBF and No. by WBC.
“I don’t see any problem getting a title shot,” stated Magdaleno on Fightnews.com. “I’ve worked hard, I’m the mandatory challenger to Nonito’s title, hopefully the politics don’t prevent me for getting what I want.
On Saturday after watching the Crawford-Postol fight, Donaire Donaire talked a bit about his next fight saying he could be facing Magdaleno in a mandatory fight soon.
“We have the mandatory which is Jessie Magdaleno and whatever it is, whatever opportunity is out there, I’ve always been the type to be willing to fight anybody that they give me,”said Donaire on Boxing Scene.
Before his impressive TKO win over Zsolt Bedak in April, Donaire said he would go for another title fight. But his possible targets who are current world titlists have their own fights coming up.
They include Carl Frampton who is now facing Leo Santa Cruz, Guillermo Rigondeaux, who is also being groomed for a mandatory fight and Hugo Ruiz, who is set to face Hozumi Hasegawa on Sept. 16.
With all his targets having their own fight schedules to attend, Donaire has no option but to face his mandatory challenger or wait until later this year for another title fight.
