Dolphins vs Chargers review

By Zachary Stallings     Nov 2, 2014 in Sports
Stats, analysis and more from today's AFC week 9 match-up between the 4-3 Miami Dolphins (home) and the 5-3 San Diego Chargers.
The week 9 AFC match-up between the 4-3 Miami Dolphins (home) and the 5-3 San Diego Chargers (away) can only be described in two words Ryan Tannehill.
The first half of the game was completely dominated by the Miami Dolphins offense. Ryan Tannehill showed great poise, and looked more like a 10 year vet, than a three year starter. He made very good throws, never tried to force anything, and ran the read option very well. But it wasn't all Tannehill, the offensive line did a great job of protecting him, which not only gave Tannehill time, but the receivers time to set up deep throws.
Another big story of the game was the defense of the Miami Dolphins. At the very start of this game the Chargers were mounting a good drive, but failed to convert on a 3rd and 17 from the Miami 38. Now the 3rd down play resulted in a 16 yard gain on a short pass from Rivers to Keenan Allen, which put the Chargers on the Miami 22. Now with 4th and 1 on the Miami 22 the Chargers were well within field goal range, but instead they go for it and fail to convert. That 4th and 1 play would set the tempo for the San Diego offense for the rest of the game.
The first half ended with the score Miami 20, San Diego 0.
The second half of the game would produce much of the same.
Tannehill would lead the Miami Dolphins offense to three more scores leading the team to a field goal, and throwing two more touchdowns to Rishard Matthew and Jarvis Landry.
With a very comfortable score of 37-0 the Dolphins would pull Tannehill and put in Matt More.
Rivers would also get pull from the game in the 3rd quarter.
Rivers had a very difficult game today he had zero time to throw, and when he did have time the Miami secondary would leave nobody open.
Rivers would throw two interceptions in the 3rd quarter, which were really desperation passes with Rivers just trying to get something started for his offense.
The final score would be Miami 37 - San Diego 0
The Miami Dolphins played a complete game, making good decisions on both sides of the ball. The Dolphins have improved to 5-3 and will travel to Detroit to face the Lions for week 10.
As for the Chargers this is their 3rd loss in a row as they fall to 5-4, and lucky for them there bye week is coming up in week 10. The Chargers really need to use this bye to figure out what they're doing wrong, and get back to playing the way they were from weeks 2 through 6. The Charger next game will be week 11 against the Raider at home.
