Diego de la Hoya seeks 3rd KO win this year against Del Valle

De la Hoya (15-0-0, 9 KOs) is a very active fighter having fought at least five times last year. In 2014, he fought six times right after fighting twice in 2013, the year when he debuted as a pro.

The 22-year-old native of Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico is coming off a TKO win against Rocco Santomauro last July at the T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas, Nevada.

It was De la Hoya’s second fight this year and his 15th straight victory since turning pro in 2013.

“I have been training very intensely for this fight. I feel no pressure and I plan on delivering a great fight for the fans. That is all that matters,” said De La Hoya, who is seeing action for the first time at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, TX.

Diego has an impressive amateur background and has been known in the ring for his being a natural aggressor. His cousin Oscar is very much impressed with his fighting style.

“He’s very good. He’s a people-pleaser,” Diego’s cousin Oscar de la Hoya said right after his fight against Giovanni Delgado last year. “He loves fighting. And when he gets hit, you can see the fire in his eyes. He wants revenge. He reminds me of me,” he added.

Diego will have a tough fight against Del Valle (22-2-0, 16 KOs), who has a 64 percent KO rating and a veteran of 25 fights since turning pro in 2008.

Del Valle has 126 amateur fights to his credit before turning pro eight years ago.

The 29-year-old native of Bayamon, Puerto Rico is relying on his ring experience, having fought former world champions like Vic Darchinyan in his quest for a world title fight.

“The fans can expect fireworks,” Del Valle said. “We’re both warriors and know that something bigger will follow if we win in a high-profile fight like this. He is a good young fighter that has talent but I’m battle tested. I’ve fought former world (champion Vic Darchinyan in a decision loss in 2012) and learned from my past bouts where I was matched tough. My experience will be a key for me in this fight. I can’t wait to put on a show for boxing fans all over the world,” he added.

The two aspiring world title contenders will share the spotlight with Mexican star Canelo Alvarez when he collides wit Liam Smith at the Dallas Cowboys home Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
