Dallas Mavericks roster could look much different next season

With several players set to hit free agency, this squad could have seven or eight new faces when the 2015-16 NBA season begins, but Cuban will do everything in his power to add the talent necessary to help veteran Dirk Nowitzki ends his career in style.

The biggest question is at point guard as Rondo is gone and it appears that veteran Monta Ellis will also take his game elsewhere. With so many roster spots open, saving money at certain positions will be needed and ESPN’s Tim MacMahon believes point guard is one spot on the floor that the Mavs can be a bit show some restraint.

Reports of Jeremy Lin returning to Texas have surfaced and a closer look at his situation and the move makes sense. Lin struggled in his role with the LA Lakers, but the Mavericks don’t need him to carry the team. He improved his three-point shooting percentage last season and his friendship with Chandler Parsons could make this a perfect match for both himself and the team.

While point guard is a need, the biggest priority this summer is adding some star power in the paint and Cuban has a couple for a legitimate NBA center.

Mike Fisher of Fox Sports has reported that the hands on owner is doing some recruiting and he’s looking at to players that have ties with the Lone Star state.

LaMarcus Aldridge is one of the most coveted free agents this summer and the type of player a franchise could build around. With Nowitzki entering the twilight of his career, signing the former Portland Trail Blazers star could help in both the short-term and down the road, allowing this squad to stay competitive after their star forward retires.

Another option is DeAndre Jordan, but his game is more defensive and while the Mavericks could use a player with more presence in the paint, the 26-year-old is not the type of player that can carry a team and would only be a backup plan for Cuban this summer.
