The Dallas Cowboys lost their top weapon — DeMarco Murray left “Big D” and took his game to NFC East rival Philadelphia — but despite the loss of the All Pro, this team could still make some noise if someone in the backfield steps up and takes over the running duties.
Luckily this franchise has developed one of the top offensive lines in football and that should make it an easier transition, but with upwards of five backs looking to win the starting job, the coaches must pick the right person or this team will take a step backwards.
Joseph Randle is currently on top on the depth chart, but the 23-year-old has just 105 career carries and has done little to impress with his help in the passing game. Last year the youngster lost two fumbles in limited action and his inexperience could make it tough for this team to repeat their success of last season.
One player that could make a difference is veteran Darren McFadden. Despite three poor years with the Oakland Raiders, the former first round draft choice was once considered one of the top backs in the NFL and now that he has a good supporting cast and an offensive line that can open holes, he could be just what this franchise needs to move forward.
McFadden rushed for over 2,600 yards his first four years in the league, averaging nearly five yards per carry during that time, but injuries and a poor line in Oakland led to his decline and eventual departure from the “Silver and Black.”
The 27-year-old is also very capable in the pass catching department with over 200 career receptions. Partner that with his ability to pickup a blitzing linebacker and the writing on the wall could have the former Arkansas star resurrecting his career in Dallas.
