College Football Recruiting: Updated team rankings for 2017

The PAC-12 isn’t having a stellar year when it comes to getting verbal commitments from the best high school seniors in the nation, but USC and Washington are finally making some headway after a very slow start.

Clay Helton is known for his recruiting prowess and the Trojans are finally reaping the rewards. Last month the program wasn’t ranked in the top-25 for 2017, but now they are 17th overall and number one in the conference.

Running back Stephen Carr is the highest-rated youngster ready to wear the cardinal and gold. The Southern California product made a verbal to the school early in 2015 and could come in next fall and take over the starting job.

Wide receiver Randal Grimes from Las Vegas is also highly rated. The Trojans like big wide outs — and at 6’4″ and over 200 pounds, he could become the next big play threat on offense.

Helton has also concentrated on the offensive line, which is nothing new for the school, but with offense being key in the PAC-12, having the athletes that can help move the ball will only help this program as they try to get back as national championship contenders.

Alabama has a hold on the number one college football recruiting class in the nation for next year, but Ohio State is right on their tail. The biggest surprise is Michigan as head coach Jim Harbaugh is using every trick in the book to get star athletes to Ann Arbor and make the Wolverines a power in the game once again.

National signing day is still months away, but getting an early jump on the competition is key, but for schools like USC, Maryland, and Rutgers, making noise now could draw attention and help get that one extra player that could turn these programs into contenders.
