College Football Recruiting: Updated 2017 rankings

While all eyes will be on Alabama and the rest of the powerhouse programs, die hard fans are immersed in the recruiting battles going on and speaking of the Crimson Tide, they lead the way with the highest rated class in 2017.

The Tide aren’t the only SEC school doing well as the conference has four other teams inside the top 10, leading many experts to believe these programs will battle for a spot in the NCAA Playoffs over the next five years and likely a national championship or two in that time frame.

Running back Najee Harris and offensive lineman Alex Leatherwood are both headed to Tuscaloosa as two of the most heralded recruits in the country. Both of these young men will play a big role in the future success at Bama’ and could be the next crop of youngsters headed to the NFL under Nick Saban’s guidance.

Rivals currently has LSU as the third best class in the nation with head coach Les Miles concentrating on the offensive side of the ball. Quarterback Lowell Narcisse should be next in line to lead the offensive unit and with wide receiver Stephen Guidry on board, these two could light up the scoreboard for the Tigers over the next four years.

Tennessee and Georgia are the other two SEC programs having banner recruiting classes. The Volunteers have done extremely well over the last two years and it’s start to pay dividends on the field. Next year’s group is heavy on the defensive side of the ball with defensive end LaTrell Bumphus leading the charge.

The Bulldogs are making a surprising run under new head coach Kirby Smart. In-state quarterback Jake Fromm will have plenty of pressure in leading the ‘Dawgs’, but he will have plenty of quality help with 13 other high school stars giving their verbal commitments to attend Georgia next fall.

College football recruiting has become big business and landing that one star player can make a big difference to a program and while all eyes are on the SEC, the Big 10 and Big 12 are both right on their heels and with a little luck, schools from these conferences will be hoisting a championship trophy in the near future.
