Alabama has been a regular top-five in the recruiting rankings since Nick Saban became head coach. The Crimson Tide are looking strong again as they are number one on Rivals.com and second on 24/7 Sports with their 20 verbal commitments for next year.
Running back Najee Harris is a five-star player and next up to run wild on the football field. The 6’2″ 222 pound bruising back is already being compared to some of the greats to wear the crimson and white, leading many to believe the program is in great shape to challenge for another championship during his time in school.
Ohio State and head coach Urban Meyer are keeping pace and the only school with three five-star verbals at this stage. While ‘Bama gets most of the attention, the SEC as a whole is doing a great job in the 2017 college football recruiting battle ground. LSU and Georgia are both making headlines with their class of players scheduled to begin their college careers next fall.
The Tigers have 18 verbals at this point and Georgia 14, but both have plenty of talented athletes on both sides of the ball and that will only increase the competitive football already played within the conference through 2020.
One school that is normally inside the top-10, but struggling at this point is USC. The Trojans are ranked 35th overall and have just 10 players with verbal commitments. With the likes of Oregon and rival UCLA having solid classes, plenty of work will need to be done in the coming months to get this program back where its used to being, tops on the west coast.
