College Football Rankings: Alabama clear number one in AP Top 25

The latest AP top-25 polls are out and the Crimson Tide are dominating the rankings with all but one first place vote. With 1,524 total points from the voters, this program is the clear number one in the nation and they proved that with a big win over sixth ranked Texas A&M on Saturday.

Michigan is now second in the nation and own the only other first place vote from the panel. The Wolverines now control their own destiny to the NCAA Football playoffs, but will need to get past rival Michigan State this week and still face Big Ten powerhouse Ohio State before the year is finished.

Clemson and Washington sit third and fourth respectively and only nine points separate the two programs. The Tigers continue to win, despite several close calls and have experience on their side with the playoff showing they had last season. The Huskies are the feel good story in college football and the only west coast team with any chance of making the final four in January, but focus will be key as this team tries to deal with the pressure of being ranked so high this late in the year.

Louisville and Ohio State are just on the outside and with both teams having suffered a loss, they will need some help to play for a national title. The Cardinals are led by Heisman Trophy favorite Lamar Jackson, but a loss to Clemson earlier this season could be the difference between playing a big bowl game or a shot at playing for a national championship.

The Buckeyes are still hopeful with a game against Michigan still on the schedule, but the loss to Penn State on Saturday was a blow to the program and much like Louisville, help is needed to get inside the top four before season’s end.

Seventh ranked Nebraska, along with 13th ranked Boise State and 20th ranked Western Michigan are the only other schools this season without a loss. The Cornhuskers have two big games against Wisconsin and Ohio State over the next two Saturdays and could make a late season move with wins, but the other two programs are playing for pride and perhaps a shot at a New Years bowl game, but only if they continue their winning ways.
