Algieri (22-2-0, 8 KOs) will face Erick Bone (16-2-0, 8 KOs) of Ecuador in a 10-round non-title fight which will serve as the main supporting bout of the Daniel Jacobs-Peter Quillin fight.
The 31-year-old fighter from Huntington, New York, rose to stardom after beating Ruslan Provodnikov by split decision in the same venue last year to bag the WBO light welterweight title.
Algieri’s upset victory over Provodnikov earned for him a ticket to face Filipino boxing star Manny Pacquiao in his most lucrative fight in his entire career. His loss to Pacquiao was followed by another loss against England’s Amir Khan via a unanimous decision.
“I am very excited to return to Barclays Center, where I have had some of my best showings,” said Algieri. “On Dec. 5, I am looking forward to having my best performance yet,” Algieri told RingTV.
Algieri looks forward to reviving his sagging career with an impressive win against Bone following his two straight losses against Pacquiao and Khan.
For his part, Bone,26, who hails from Ecuador, said he is looking forward to a great performance against Algieri on Dec. 5.
“This is a huge fight for me,” said Bone. “I know Algieri well and I know that he is going to bring it. I am fighting a great fighter and after my performance on Dec. 5, the world will know my name,” he added.
Bone is coming off a knockout loss to Shawn Porter at the Citizens Business Bank Arena, Ontario, California on March 13, 2015.
CBS/Showtime will televise the New York weekend boxing event.
