Gonzalez is coming off a ninth-round TKO win against Brian Viloria last October at the Madison Square Garden, New York City, New York to retain his WBC, Lineal & The Ring Flyweight titles.
In a press conference in Managua, Gonzales confirmed that he will be in Golovkin’s undercard for the second time but he has yet to name his next opponent.
“Right now I do not know who I will be fighting, but my next fight is confirmed for April 23 in Los Angeles,” Gonzalez said
Gonzales, who remains unbeaten in 44 pro fights is eyeing a showdown with Mexico’s Juan Hernandez or Puerto Rico’s McWilliams Arroyo in his bid to preserve his unbeaten record.
After defending his title against Viloria late last year, Gonzalez had entertained the idea of a lucrative rematch with Juan Francisco Estrada, who has won seven straight fights since their last bout in 2012.
Also in his shortlist is Thailand’s Amnat Ruengroeng, who holds the IBF title for a possible unification match.
The 28-year-old Nicaraguan is on top of the list of unbeaten fighters comprising the Ring’s current pound-for-pound list which include Sergey Kovalev (No.2) of Russia with 28 wins, Gennady Golovkin (No.3) of Kazakhstan with 34 wins, Andre Ward (No.4) of the U.S. with 28 wins, Gillermo Rigondeaux (No.5) of Cuba with 16 wins, Terence Crawford (No.6) of the U.S. with 27 wins and Shinsuke Yamanaka (No.9) with 24 wins.
