Shiming and Ruenroeng were the main attraction in the weekend boxing event put together by Bob Arum’s Top Rank Promotions at the Cotai Arena of the Vennetian Resort and Casino in Macau, China Saturday night.
It was a dull and boring fight to watch as Shiming looked tentative and unable to launch a massive attack on Ruenroeng, except on the second round when the referee ruled a knockdown in his favor.
Shiming has won six of his seven professional fights since turning pro in 2013.
The ex-Chinese Olympian has fought Ruenroeng in a trilogy during their amateur encounters and each time, Shiming got the judges’ verdict in his favor. Read more:
“This is just awesome, just awesome. We beat the Chinese boxer on his own doorstep,” said Stanley Beard, one of Amnat’s trainers after the fight. “We thought we would win by a bigger margin. He fought a great fight.”
Shiming expressed his regrets for losing a career-defining fight but humbly admitted his loss to Ruenroeng.
“Tonight is regretful for me. But I’d like to congratulate my opponent.” Shiming told media after the fight.
Ruenroeng (15-0, 5 knockouts) of Chonburi, Thailand, got a unanimous verdict from the judges with the score of 116-111 on all three cards.
