article imageChicago Bears News and Rumors: Top free agent targets

By Larry Seely     Jan 7, 2014 in Sports
Chicago - The Chicago Bears made a bold move signing veteran quarterback Jay Cutler to a new contract last week, ending speculation on what direction this franchise will go over the next few years.
With the signing, the team now must turn its attention to finding some help for a defense that played mediocre at best in 2013. The team finished the year 8-8, despite an injury to Cutler, but the biggest problem was a defense that allowed the most points in the NFL, something that the draft won't fix.
Several free agents will be available and the Bears could make a big move by adding some help. Bleacher Report writer Ross Read has suggested a few players that could help and one name that stands out is Brian Orakpo of Washington.
In five years in the league Orakpo has 39.5 sacks, but his speed and experience is what will help this unit the most. The Redskins are strapped by the salary cap and that will hurt their chances of resigning him, allowing the Chicago Bears to add a player that could help create some havoc for opposing quarterbacks and a move that would allow Shea McClellin to move back to his natural outside linebacker position and give the team two dynamic pass rushers from the outside edge.
