article imageChennai Super Kings v Delhi Daredevils live & preview

By Zed Dav     Apr 21, 2014 in Sports
Abu Dhabi - The IPL 2014 enters its second week with a game between the most consistent side of the competition, Chennai and the previous season's bottom-placed Delhi Daredevils.
The Chennai Super Kings take on the Delhi Daredevils in this eighth game of the IPL 2014.
This will be Chennai Super Kings' second game in this IPL season and it's interesting to see that they did not have a great start to the tournament. Their batting was good but on a pitch that was as flat as a pancake, their bowling struggled for control against Kings XI Punjab.
What was also a bother for the Super Kings was that one of the opposition batsmen, Glenn Maxwell, went after them and they failed to respond to the onslaught. So when they take on the Delhi Daredevils, they will need to avoid the same pitfall.
Having said that, the Daredevils do not have a batsmen of the calibre of Maxwell or a Chris Gayle in their line-up and will look to rely on the likes of JP Duminy, their best bat this season, and Dinesh Karthik. Kevin Pietersen's fitness continues to remain a problem, which essentially means that Karthik could lead the team yet again.
What could be Delhi's worry is their over-dependence on Duminy, although Karthik did show signs of returning back to form against the Kolkata Knight Riders last game. As opposed to that, Murali Vijay's poor form will be a worry for the Daredevils.
On the other hand, the Super Kings could look to change their line-up for this one. Skipper MS Dhoni isn't usually one to change things around in a hurry but there are two issues here. One, Dwayne Bravo, injured himself last game and his fitness is still to be checked. Secondly, and this one's to do with Bravo yet again, he had gone into the previous game with a cloud of fitness issue and wasn't expected to bowl.
What that means is there's a good chance that even if he recovers from the previous game's injury, Bravo may not be in a position to bowl — which could make his selection tougher. One of Ben Hilfenhaus or Samuel Badree could get a look-in.
The Chennai v Delhi game begins live at 8 p.m. IST and will be streamed live on either YouTube or the official StarSports website.
