Hamilton opened the scoring in the first quarter as Medlock hit from 55 yards, the fourth longest field goal ever in the Canadian Football League Playoffs. Toronto looked good on offense early, but penalties halted two drives and the Tiger-Cats capitalized with another field goal to make the score 6-0.
The second quarter was all Argonauts as they used the wind and a couple big penalties to take the lead 10-6. The only touchdown in the first half was scored on a 1-yard dive from Toronto running back Brandon Whitaker.
Veteran quarterback Ricky Ray helped extend that lead in the third quarter when he connected with slot back Chad Owens from eight yards out, giving the Argos an 18-6 lead, but the Ti-Cats responded with a long 42-yard scoring strike from Jeremiah Masoli to a wide open Bakari Grant, cutting the lead to 18-13 through three quarters of action.
A missed field goal by Toronto kicker Swayze Waters made the score 19-13 and once again Hamilton responded, this time on defense as they forces a safety early in the final quarter to make the score 19-15.
After a big kick return, the Tiger-Cats went to the running game behind C.J. Cable to move inside the red zone. Masoli capped off the drive with a a one-yard run on third down, giving his squad their first lead of the game 22-19.
After another missed field goal, Toronto used a strong defensive effort to get the ball back and this time Walters converted form 42 yards out with just :48 left in the contest, tying the score at 22-22, but Masoli responded with two big completions and a face mask penalty to give Medlock the opportunity for the win and he converted, sending his team to the CFL Eastern Conference Finals next week at Ottawa.
