Montreal made big news by signing Vernon Adams, a young dynamic play maker from Oregon. It surprised some experts that the youngster was taken in last months NFL Draft, but their lose is the Alouettes gain, at least for the next three years.
With the addition of the Ducks quarterback, it now seems Rakeem Cato could be looking for work elsewhere. The former Marshall star filled in nicely last season, completing a whopping 80 percent of his passes and nine touchdowns in 12 games played, but it was reported that he could be released latter this week with the depth the team now has at the signal calling position.
The 24-year-old might not be out of work long as the Toronto Sun has suggested the Argonauts could have interest in the young man. The team currently is set at starter with Ricky Ray as the offensive leader, but depth issues behind the starter could have Cato with a new team in the coming weeks.
Toronto lost in the CFL Playoffs last year when backup Adrian McPherson couldn’t lead the team through the air. The veteran is terrific running the ball and a good leader, but it showed the team and its fans that help could be needed, especially with the injuries that hit quarterbacks in the league each year.
Montreal will enter the year with Kevin Glenn as the starter, but it figures Adams will be given his chance in the upcoming preseason schedule to put his stamp on the job and if successful, will create a huge buzz in the city, but as his door could open, Cato’s appears closed and a change of scenery is probably best for his career.
