article imageCFL News and Rumors: Chad Johnson headed to Montreal Alouettes?

By Larry Seely     Mar 20, 2014 in Sports
Montreal - Chad Johnson made a name for himself in the NFL with his crazy touchdown celebrations and literately changing his name to Ochocinco and now reports are coming from north of the border that the 36-year-old could play in the CFL in the upcoming season.
TSN has reported that the Montreal Alouettes have earned the exclusive rights to sign the former Pro Bowl wide receiver and are in talks to bring the veteran to Canada.
Johnson used Twitter to respond, saying he is ready, in shape, and fast as hell. While its still not clear if these discussions are just a hoax or something the former Cincinnati Bengals and New England Patriots wide out is really considering, but with the troubles Montreal had last season, especially with injuries on offense, it couldn't hurt to give the former second round pick a tryout.
Johnson last played during the 2011 NFL season, but his career total of 766 receptions for over 11,000 yards and 67 touchdowns would bring some experience to Montreal and perhaps a stepping stone into coaching for the former Oregon State star.
Not everyone is eager to see the veteran wide receiver play in the CFL. B.C. Lions General Manager Wally Buono doesn't believe with his past off field problems that Johnson would make a good fit in the league, but sports teams seem to always give players second and third chances, but this would be a great story for the league and create some massive PR for Montreal heading into the upcoming football season.
