article imageCavs, LeBron get a whole lotta Love, Timberwolves get Canadians

By Marcus Hondro     Aug 24, 2014 in Sports
The deal is official and the Cleveland Cavaliers and returning superstar, LeBron James now have all-star power forward Kevin Love, 25. LeBron and Love together make Cleveland contenders to win the city's first major championship since 1964.
The Cost of Love in Cleveland
Love, who could have become a free-agent next summer anyhow, came at a big cost for the Cavs, who clearly felt the time to strike was now. The newly-minted contenders, who won but 33 games last season, had to give up to the Minnesota Timberwolves the team's Canadian Connection in Canadians Andrew Wiggins, the first overall pick in this year's draft, and last year's first overall pick, Anthony Bennett.
It was a three-way trade involving the Philadelphia 76ers. Minnesota also gets a replacement for Love, Thaddeus Young, 26 from Philly, who get the 2015 first-round draft choice from Cleveland that the Cavs received from the Miami Heat when the Heat signed James in 2010; the 76ers also get, from Minnesota, Russian point guard Alexey Shved, 25, and Cameroonian forward, Luc Mbah a Moute, 27.
The Timberwolves get in the deal something the NBA calls a 'trade exception' worth about $6.3 million.
Terrific Trio in James, Love and Irving
Last season, Love averaged 26.1 PPG (4th overall, right behind James' 27.1) and 12.5 rebounds (3rd in the NBA). It won't be the first time he's teamed up with LeBron, the two played together on the U.S. national team that won gold at the London Olympics in 2012.
But forget about the Cavs simply now having a Dynamic Duo in James and Love. Add all-star point guard Kyrie Irving into the mix and the team has a Terrific Trio as hard to defend as James, Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh were during LeBron's 4 seasons in Miami (a run that included 4 trips to the NBA finals and two championships).
The 50-year drought in Cleveland looks to be in danger of ending.
