article imageCanucks goalie Eddie Lack looking forward to stint as Number One

By Marcus Hondro     Dec 27, 2013 in Sports
Depending on which report you believe, Vancouver Canucks goalie Roberto Luongo is out with a groin injury either 7 to 10 days or he's day-to-day. Either way, until he returns his back-up, Eddie Lack, is ready to enjoy a stint as the go-to guy.
"It's fun to play, obviously," the 25-year-old Swede said after Vancouver's practice Friday "I'm just trying to make the most of it. I always thought I was capable of playing in this league. I worked hard a long time to get here."
Lack's career was put on hold with a serious hip injury last season in the AHL. He was ready to go this year, however, and beat out Joacim Eriksson (called up Friday to serve as back-up while Luongo is out) for the number two spot.
So far this season, Lack's numbers are impressive. He's 6-2 with a 1.93 GAA and a .928 save percentage and 1 shutout. He's gotten into 11 games.
Undrafted, Lack maintains he's grateful to the Canucks for giving him a chance with a contract to play with the now-defunct Manitoba Moose of the AHL in 2010. He also played two seasons with the team's former-AHL farm team, the Chicago Wolves. With the dealing of Corey Schneider, Lack got his chance this season to stick with the big club.
"I'm just trying to have fun every day," he said.
